Second Grade
The Purple Turtles:
MY INTENTIONS FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR:
To provide a learning environment where
the children can grow socially, academically, and spiritually as
individuals while having fun!
HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS & PROCEDURES:
Homework will generally be given out
every Friday, and is due back on the following Friday. Homework will
consist of work that parallels what we're doing in class, and review
sheets for upcoming tests and quizzes.
SPECIAL CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES:
The Purple room students will learn to
play a musical instrument each year. We will do a few special
projects throughout the year which will involve presenting an
assigned creation of some sort. Each student will also participate
in community and service projects.
TEACHER PROFILE- Debbie Mac Dowall
I've been teaching at Rainbow since
1992, starting in our 3-year old room, spent some time with the
Kindergarteners, and have finally settled in with the Second Grade.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading,
playing soccer, and traveling.
Sandra Hosler
I have been teaching at rainbow since
1996. I have enjoyed teaching the children here at Rainbow and seeing
them learn and grow. I have a son who attended Rainbow and is now in
middle school. I enjoy reading, cross-stitching and my family. My
dog, Deja, occasionally attends Rainbow and the kids enjoy seeing her
as much as she enjoys seeing them.
THE TURTLES:
The
purple room has chosen the Turtle as its mascot. Not only do the two
words rhyme somewhat, but we also believe strongly in the philosophy
of the Turtle Symbol. Turtles symbolize Mother Earth, and help us to
learn to give back as well as receive to the earth. Since the turtle
walks on all fours, they also teach us to keep our feet firmly on the
ground at all times.
