We do not assign daily homework. We believe that students need free time to enjoy being kids. Students in our older grades are expected to be reading at home, preparing for academic tests, and working on various projects and reports at times throughout the year. Our 6th graders are given homework the last half of the year to make help their transition to middle school easier, learning how to budget their evening time.
What is your philosophy on discipline?
We believe that children have a right to a quality Los Gatos private education in a safe and caring environment. Our behavior policy starts with the adults of the school and our commitment to work on ourselves and to treat each other and the children in our care with respect. We want to provide children, and adults, with the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and to develop over time an inner-sense of what is right in the moment. Our goal is to foster a healthy learning environment by fostering respect for self and others, by providing clear expectations and boundaries, and by promoting problem-solving skills among our students. When a child crosses these boundaries, we start with discussions, encouraging the student to see other choices he or she could have made. If the behavior persists, we will meet with the parent to delve deeper into an underlying reason. With the parent we will create a plan of action, which often involves a loss of school privileges. We feel working with the parents lets their child know that they are facing a united front to best help them succeed.
Do you offer financial aid?
Yes, we offer a limited program to help students attend Rainbow of Knowledge elementary school. We believe that money should not stop a student from having the opportunity to participate in our program.
How do graduates fare after leaving your school?
We have found that they are generally amply prepared to transition into the next school, no matter if it’s public or private. We concentrate on helping them with social skills and finding a love for themselves to help foster high self-esteem. We provide a rigorous Los Gatos Private Education program so they have learned how to budget their time and succeed in the classroom. We help them to feel comfortable to speak out in the classroom or on the playground so they don’t feel over-whelmed if the numbers at their next school are higher than ours. Our most recent graduating class all went on to become straight-A students in their respective middle schools, as well as being successfully involved in school sports, dance, and government.
