Frequently Asked Questions

Q.) What are your school hours?
A.)
Our hours are 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Before and after-school programs are available. Our curriculum offers a balance of academic, emotional, physical, and spiritual activities. Below is a brief overview of the third grade program. Please feel free to call the school for more details, or visit our school for a personal tour!

Q.) What ages do you accept at Rainbow of Knowledge?
A.) We accept students from the age of 4.9 up to 12 years old. We do not formally test students for placement. All students are placed where they will succeed. The decision for placement is made by the Principal, Teachers, and Parents.

Q.) Do you require families to volunteer, participate in Fund-raisers, or make donations to the school?
A.) What makes our school unique is that parents have the opportunity to participate in their child's education. Parents volunteer to earn “Happy Faces” which helps keep our tuition pries lower than other private schools in the area. Parents can volunteer at “Work Days,” Field Trips, Parties, Special Events and even in the classroom. Parents are required to participate in two fund-raisers per school year. The money raised also helps keep our tuition rates at a reasonable level.

Q.) Do you offer extracurricular activities at your school?

A.) Yes we do! Below is a list of activities. There is a separate cost for each activity, and they are all held on our campus.
  • Dance
  • Cheer leading
  • Fall Soccer
  • Spring Soccer
  • Guitar Lessons
  • Karate
  • Jump Bunch
Q.) Do you offer financial aid?
A.) We understand how difficult it is at times to afford a private school. Three years ago, Rainbow of Knowledge decided to give back to the community by helping families afford private school. Each year, we have five spaces that are designated for our grant program. If you are interested, please call or stop by and pick up an application.

Q.) Do you offer meals or snacks for the students?
A.) No, we do not offer meals or snack. Students may bring lunch and snacks from home, and each classroom has a refrigerator and a microwave to help prepare your child's lunch if needed.

Q.) Do you require the students to wear uniforms?
A.) No, we believe that children are individuals and need to express their individuality. If you restrict students too much they lose their creativity and belief in themselves. Students who wear uniforms, do not do better academically or socially. What a sad place the world would be if we all dressed alike.

Q.) Do the students go on field trips?

A.) Yes, the students attend one field trip per month. Sometimes we travel by cars and other times we contract a bus company. There is an extra charge for field trips but we try and keep the costs down as much as possible. Some of our destinations in the past have been to:
  • SBC PARK
  • S.F. ZOO
  • THE TECH MUSEUM
  • HP PAVILLION
  • CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK
  • COSTCO
  • CHEVY'S
  • THE PUMPKIN PATCH & CORN MAZE
  • MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM
  • THE LIVE ORGANIC FARM
  • SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK

Q.) How long has the school been in business?
A.) Rainbow of Knowledge opened its doors for business starting in 1976. Our first location was in a small house on Park Avenue in San Jose. Back then we only had a small Preschool. Then we opened a second location in Campbell on Bascom Avenue. It was in 1978 that we started a Kindergarten program. We moved to a vacant school in 1984 where we started to add a grade each year. Eventually we stopped doing Preschool in 2005. We also moved to a new location in July 2005. We hope to stay at our new location for many years to come.

Q.) What is your Discipline Policy?
A.) Discipline in each classroom is handled by the teacher. The classroom rules are explained during the first day of school and revisited throughout the year as needed. Parents are given a copy of the classroom rules during our Back to School Night each year. We will explain in detail the discipline policy at that time. In general, minor infractions will result in loss of privilege, a discipline report, behavioral probation and – or a visit with the Principal. Major infractions include the items mentions about and possible suspension. The staff and the parents work together to help the students make better choices.

Q.) Does you school close for any holidays?

A.) Rainbow is open year around but we do close for the following holidays:
  • NEW YEARS DAY
  • MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY
  • PRESIDENT'S DAY
  • MEMORIAL DAY
  • JULY 4TH
  • LABOR DAY
  • VETERAN'S DAY
  • THANKSGIVING (THURSDAY & FRIDAY)
  • CHRISTMAS
Q.)What is the P.A.C.?
A.) P.A.C. Stands for Parent Advisory Committee. This is a small group of parents who assist the staff with activities and events for the school year. When parents and teachers work together, the child benefits in so many ways. Parents may apply to become a P.A.C. Member in August of each year. Parents who complete their terms as a P.A.C. Member receive tuition credits.

Our teachers might be involved in something very important with the students when you arrive so it's best if you call ahead if you would like to meet with the teachers for a more in- depth conversation.

Q.)What is Education for Life?
A.) Education for Life is a program which helps balance our lives. Not only do we teach the normal academic skills found in most schools, but we also help students develop skills to deal with life. The students do Yoga or Tai Chi daily to help them stay calm and focused. We also use Centering each day to be still and quiet our minds. We teach conflict resolution, balance, harmony, compassion, joy, accountability, empowerment, and a deep respect for Mother Earth and all who inhabit this planet.

Q.) How can I enroll my child at your school?
A.) It is very simple. Just fill out the application and drop it by or mail it in with your Registration and Materials fees. Once we receive that, we will forward the enrollment package to you. Once all the paperwork is completed, just let us know when you would like to start.
